Welcome to the Samsung forum on CNET! Samsung worked with CNET to create a forum where people can ask questions and talk about all Samsung products and get help with everything from HDTVs, Smart TVs, home theater components, phones, cameras to monitors and printers. This forum is staffed by Samsung employees, but as we have seen in the past, often the most helpful answers come from CNET forum members themselves so please don't consider this just a Q and A with Samsung. This is a CNET forum and Samsung is here to be part of the conversation. Hi, please could someone help or offer advice; I own a Samsung UE40EH5300 smart tv which has been working great for a few months now.
Thousands of owners of high-end Samsung TVs have complained after a software update left their recently acquired $1,800 sets with blank, unusable screens. Newer models of Samsung televisions, as of 2010, use driver software that is similar to drivers designed for personal computer devices. As Samsung improves its driver software, updates become available that may enhance your TV's compatibility with certain devices, improve display capabilities or solve other problems.

Today I turned it on and it asked me to update which I declined. I then tried to use the Lovefilm app, which I have used many times, but I get the message 'To use Lovefilm, update your Samsung software, etc'. I turned the tv off and on, but it didn't ask me again to update. I then went to menu, support, software update and clicked through the options.

But still can't use Lovefilm. I uninstalled the Lovefilm app and reinstalled it. I even did a reset for the tv, but still I get the same message when I try to use this app? Other apps are working ok. Any ideas on how to fix this?
The software update option in the menu is now un-selectable:/ Thanks, Lucas. I had the exact same problem. My TV is a UE46ES6800. There were no online firmware updates for my tv and lovefilm insisted it required the new update.
Not sure if this is the correct order to do things but this worked for me. I deleted the LoveFilm app from my Samsung TV. I logged onto my lovefilm account on my PC and deactivated the samsung tv device. I then downloaded the latest firmware for my tv from the samsung website onto a USB stick. The tv had version 1033 installed and the USB version available for download was 1037.
Uploaded the later firmware to my tv via the USB stick. I made sure I followed the instructions in the upgrade guide which was also available on the same webpage as the firmware. Installed the love film App and entered my account details. Lovefilm is now working, it looks like they've released a brand new app as it has a new interface. Hope this helps. Ok, so by following duffy's post I was able to fix this problem Thanks Duffy!!
Just a tip- once you have downloaded the filmware update to your USB, remember to turn off the TV, then insert the USB, so its inserted when the TV is turned on/ starts up and wait 2 minutes. Otherwise when you select the menu, support function on your TV, the 'software update' option will still be greyed out. Also after checking the Sumsung App store via my TV, I can see that the Lovefilm app was updated 29 August 2013, so the latest app update seems to be the route cause for this issue. Thanks, Lucas.
It seems to only affect recent models. Customers on the note that their, and models either won't change the channel, or, worse, won't display anything after the splash screen upon powering on. We're waiting on an official statement from Samsung, but as of Tuesday (the problem began cropping up last Friday) customer service told forum members it didn't have a clue when a fix would go out to customers., a moderator posted saying that the fix Samsung was working on was undergoing internal testing (it works, apparently) and that it would need to be installed by an 'approved Samsung engineer.' How long that will take to schedule and how widespread this glitch is isn't clear, but that could lead to more time without a working, brand new television and even more frustrated customers. Update: Samsung has responded with the following comment: 'Samsung is aware of a small number of TVs in the UK (less than 200) affected by a firmware update to 2017 MU Series TVs on 17th August.
Once this issue was identified, the update was switched off and we're now working with each customer to resolve the issue. Any customers affected are encouraged to get in touch with Samsung directly (1-800 SAMSUNG). We would like to apologize for the inconvenience caused to our customers.'
